On Friday, April 11th, the Emporia High School played Washburn Rural at Sodens Grove.
This first paragraph will be over the first 3 innings of the EHS baseball game. Washburn Rural started off hitting because they were the visitor team. Their first batter struck out, and the second batter hit a single down the third baseline. The third batter hit a ground ball to the shortstop and the shortstop threw the ball to second but did not get the double play. The fourth batter of the inning grounded out to the first baseman to end the first half inning. EHS went three up three down. That means the first three batters got out to end the first inning. At the beginning of the second inning Washburn hit a double down the first baseline. The next batter singled, so now they have runners on first and third. But Washburn couldn’t score. Emporia couldn’t score in the second inning either. Neither team did anything exciting during the third inning.
The fourth inning for Washburn started off bad and they had two outs. But they had back to back singles and then a double to score one runner. When Emporia was up the energy was kinda low, but the first batter hit a single. The next two batters struck out. The next batter hit a double so it put the baserunners on 2nd and 3rd. The next batter hit a fly ball to center field, which was caught and ended the inning. In the 5th inning, Neither Washburn nor Emporia scored.
In the 6th inning, Emporia scored a run bring the score to a tied 1-1. The next batter struck out. The next batter flew out to center field. End of the innging the last inning is upon us what will happen. Washburn is hitting right know they hit back to back doubles so they score then the next batter strikes out the next batter hit a single so runners are now on first and third the person on first steals and is safe they now have runners on second and third and are winning 2-1. The next batter doubles scoring both runners, so the score is now 4-1. The next batter hits a single that scores the runner so the score is now 5-1. The next two batters both fly out. So now Emporia is hitting and has to score four runs to stay in the game. The first batter singles over the first baseman’s head. The next batter strikes out but the runner was able to steal. The next runner hits a fly ball it’s deep and it is caught at the wall, but the runner is able to get to third. The next batter sadly grounds out to the first baseman and the end of the game is called by the umpire and the EHS loses to Washburn Rural 5-1.
