❄️ Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival! ❄️

December 7, 2017

Have you ever built a snowman? Have you ever built a snow fort? In the Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival, people are doing much higher skilled strategics. In Harbin, China, the largest snow and ice building festival takes place annually. I have never attended the event myself. I can convey that it sounds like one stunning event to attend or participate in! In this article, I will acquaint you with everything about this alluring event!

Imagine monumental ice carvings looming over you. The condescending feeling as if you were a small bug. Fantasize the magnificently carved sculptures towering over you as you marvel their size. Imagine the stunning designs more than twenty feet tall, lights reflecting off their broad surfaces. Imagine the embossed designs into huge blocks of ice. Imagine the innumerable sculptures surrounding you. What you’re imagining is real and believable. If you attend the Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival, you’ll be able to see the sights for yourself!

The event happens yearly and starts on January 5th and lasts until February 5th. While erected through the city, there are two main exhibit areas. “Sun Island is a recreational area on the opposite side of the Songhua River. It runs from the city which features an expo of enormous snow sculptures. Ice and Snow World is an open area at night which features full size sculptures made from blocks of 2–3” thick ice. At first, China celebrated it and then Harbin took over the event” (Wikipedia). During the monthly festival, other activities are held in the city of Harbin.

The history of an event is always imperative to know. The Ice and Snow festival originated by the international ice lantern snow. It takes place in Harbin, China during the year 1963. The event is pretty ancient! The Ice and Snow festival was actually on hold through a series of years. During the Cultural Revolution, it was since held yearly. The event was introduced to the public on January 5th, 1985 in Zhaolin Park. Only a mere sixteen years ago (2001) the Harbin Ice Festival merged with Heilongjiang’s International Ski Festival. In fact, in the combining of the two events, that’s where the Harbin Ice Festival got its formal name! During 2014, the festival celebrated its 30th anniversary of being open to the public.

That is a wrap on my article over The Harbin National Ice and Snow Festival. This particular event sounds extravagant to attend! The time and practice, not to mention money on tools, must’ve been drastic. As if in the near or far future, you may think of visiting Harbin, China, and if you visit during the Ice and Festival, you’d be able to see the magnificent sculptures in your own eyes!
