🗣 Top 10 Most Spoken Languages In the World 🗣

     People say that being bilingual or trilingual is a difficult achievement to attain. Learning more than one language is though task for anyone. People who can speak more than their native tongue earn lots of money for translating. Not only does this job pay well, but you can help the lives of others in need. Before you struggle to learn another language, you have to learn which ones are the most use! Going from most spoken to least spoken, there are several languages to learn about worldwide!

1. Chinese

        Chinese is one of the oldest written and spoken languages in the world! Chinese has at least 6,000 years of history. The most spoken type of Chinese is Mandarin with 955 million speakers! The Chinese language has roughly 1.2 billion native speakers in all. If that isn’t a lot, then I’m not sure what is. If you want to learn a language one in six people in the world speak, this is the one for you! (Link)

      2. Spanish

       The former Spanish language we know is derived from a dialect Latin. “The Spanish language originated in the Southwest region of Europe known as the Iberian Peninsula” (Source of information). Just a mere 40 million more native speakers than English, Spanish speakers take on second place in the top ten most spoken languages. 

      3. English

        If you’re reading this very story, you may be the 360 million native American speakers and/or readers. The oldest English language was called Old English—the perfect name (the time was c. 550 – 1066 CE). “Old English developed from a set of North Sea Germanic dialects originally spoken along the coasts of Frisia, Lower Saxony, Jutland, and Southern Sweden” (Source of information).

      4. Hindi

       It is estimated, per se, that 425 million people speak Hindi as a first language. Did you know that there are 22 official languages in India? Although, the language Hindi is India’s national language. Other than Hindi, English is also another language spoken in India, though most think that English is mostly spoken in the U.S. Hindi is mainly spoken in northern India and parts of Pakistan, giving speakers a large variety of land.       5. Arabic

       Arabic, like Chinese, is a complex language to learn. They all are, of course. With 250 million native speakers at its disposal, the Arabic language opens whole new eyes. “Arabic is a Central Semitic language, closely related to the Northwest Semitic languages (Aramaic, Hebrew, Ugaritic and Phoenician)” Source of Information. Arabic is a difficult language to learn, completely different than English.

    6. Portuguese

          “The Portuguese language developed in the Western Iberian Peninsula from Latin spoken by Roman soldiers and colonists starting in the 3rd century B.C” (Source of Information). Today, Portuguese has 215 million native speakers, putting it sixth on the list. With several native speakers in several countries, Portuguese is widely known. As you may have guessed, Portuguese is the national language in Portugal. Most native Portuguese speakers are considered Latino (of a latin descent) or Hispanic.

    7.  Bengali

        Admit it now: you probably have absolutely no clue what Bengali is. I certainly didn’t know what it was until I did research. Spoken by 210 million native or second-hand speakers, Bengali is 7th on the list of most spoken languages. “There are about 100 million Bengali speakers in Bangladesh, about 85 million in India, primarily in the states of West Bengal, Assam, and Tripura; and sizable immigrant communities in the United Kingdom, the United States, and the Middle East” (Source of Information)

   8. Russian

      The Russian language is a Slavic language of the Indo-European family. “One hundred and thirty-seven million of Russian’s 166 million native speakers live in the Russian Federation, with smaller populations in Ukraine (8.3 million), Belarus (6.6 million), Uzbekistan (4 million) and Kazakhstan (3.8 million)” (Source of Information). In fact, about 145 million Russian Speakers can speak English, as well as Russian.

    9. Japanese

       Often, many get Japanese confused with Chinese. They are two completely different languages, to be completely honest. Japanese, as it’s fairly easy to guess, is Japan’s national language. About 125 million speak Japanese with 124 million who speak it actually in Japan. (Link)

      10. Punjabi

        “Punjabi is an Indo-Aryan language. It is the native language of about 130 million people, and is the 10th most spoken language in the world. Most of the people who speak this language live in the Punjab region of Pakistan and India. It is also widely spoken in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi” (Source of Information)

        Those are the top 10 most spoken languages in the world! I hope you learned something new in this article. It may be hard to hard to learn but it’s a good skill to have. Some of these languages I didn’t even know until I researched them!
