Have you ever wondered where popular artists like Post Malone started out? I’m here to answer your question and more. I will be reviewing what he did before he became famous, what he did while he was starting out, and what he’s doing now.*

*Listen to these songs outside school because most the songs have explicit language.

Austin Richard Malone, better known as Post Malone, was raised by his father and stepmother. At the age of nine, Post started learning to play guitar (this was inspired from Guitar Hero). Post said when he first thought about doing music professionally he was in a heavy metal band; eventually switching to soft rock then to hip-hop. He then realised if he wanted to be in the music business that he would need a stage name. He used a “rap name generator” and got Post, but then he decided to keep last name. Childish Gambino also did this.

Post Malone didn’t really have any success until his first hit song, White Iverson. The song first started out on SoundCloud but eventually Post released a music video on YouTube. Once the song got one million views within a month on YouTube, record labels started noticing and wanted to work with him. While he was being noticed for White Iverson, other popular artists started wanting to do collaborations with him; Post even performed at Kylie Jenner’s 18th birthday party. After this, Post made more of his own songs such as, Congratulations, I Fall Apart, and Deja Vu.

In 2018, Post made his new album, Beerbongs and Bentleys. Before he released the whole album, his single Rockstar featuring 21 Savage was number one on the Top 100 Billboard for eight weeks! The album was supposed to be released in 2017 but got pushed back to 2018. The day Beerbongs and Bentleys was released, it was streamed 78.7 million times worldwide; it also went platinum in just four days.

I hope you learned at least one thing about Post Malone. I think he’s a very talented artist who puts a lot of his own life into his songs and doesn’t just talk about drugs and alcohol. Please go check him out and his new album.
