Cub Scouts is a younger branch of Boy scouts. Recently, there was a family event hosted for young scouts and their families to experience what scouting is like through various activities at a day long camp in Oskaloosa, Kansas.

A Local Troop Leader

One of the troop leaders here from Emporia KS, Becky Morton, said that,  “Cub Scout Adventure Day is put on by Boy Scouts at Falley Scout Reservation to introduce new Scouts to different Scouting activities and have a day of family fun.” She says that she enjoys volunteering, and helping scouts and their families.

She also stated that being in scouts is a great way for families to spend time together. The Cub Scout Adventure Day is a great example of that. “My goal is that families can use Scouting as a way to spend quality time together, make wonderful memories, and learn some new skills along the way.” Many activities were offered for kids to enjoy. Like fishing, archery, wrist rockets (slingshots), games, bottle rockets, crafts, rock climbing, and BB gun shooting. They even had a station where new scouts got to earn their first badge.

Outstanding Activities

Even though there were many activities, there were some that obviously stood out as the most popular. As stated by Morton, “By far, the most popular are archery, BB’s, and wrist rocket slingshots.” One scout said, “It [the activities] was really fun and cool.” Kids enjoyed these stations very much and many parents were proud to see the happy faces after their scouts were able to see where they landed on the target. While the kids had the fun of experiencing the different activities, parents get comfortable with scouting. According to Morton, “New parents get a feel for the layout of camp, Scout activities, and Scout culture.  It’s important that parents feel comfortable with their Scout’s new experiences.”

Cub Scout Adventure Day was an experience that every family should be able to have.  Another statement made by Morton was, “I enjoyed seeing Scouts celebrating a good shot, creating a unique craft, and spending time with friends.” The best part of Adventure Day might not be the activities, but maybe just seeing the joy of a child’s face when they’ve done something that they’re proud of.  The Annual Cub Scout Family Adventure Day, is a great way to connect with your loved ones, but even if you’re not a scout you can still enjoy these activities and the company of your family.
