After Math of Hurricane Florence

After Math of Hurricane Florence

Imagine 156 mph winds tearing at your house in the middle of a hurricane and you need to know how to survive, this paper should give you the exact details!  If you are staying in your city to protect your house from looters during a hurricane, you should know the steps to do so. Many people stay during hurricanes instead of leaving which I advise.  Staying during a hurricane can be very dangerous but so can leaving. So I am here to tell you the steps for surviving a hurricane.

First off, make sure you have supplies; for instance water and food. Also, you will need an escape route.  When people know a hurricane’s coming, stores start selling out extremely quickly. Bottled water is the first to sell out so be sure to get some quickly.  Also try to get canned food or dehydrated food, some kind of food that doesn’t expire. Another good idea is to maybe get a mobile charger for a phone just in case you need to call for help.

Secondly, find a strong structure to stay in.  Sometimes houses won’t be fit for 150 mph winds or they’re near a river.  Make sure you have taken shelter in a house on high ground, also make sure the house has a strong foundation.  If you are doubting the high ground, then make an escape plan to go on the roof quickly. Don’t forget to be sympathetic during this time, because everyone else will be going through the same situation.

Lastly, the possibility of needing to be rescued.  Like I stated earlier make sure you have a mobile charger for a phone, just in case your house is deteriorating or getting flooded.  If you could buy a float-able device, that would be great if you need to escape the shelter in a emergency. Also, just because your house isn’t underwater doesn’t mean the rest of your neighborhood isn’t. If you have enough supplies and space you could accept a family into your house (suggestion).

I hope these steps will come in useful in a real situation.  Never underestimate the power of a hurricane or even a tropical storm.  Always expect a power outage and even a water shortage. Just make sure you use this story and not the “how to survive a tornado” story, but still go check out that story so you know what to do in that situation, link here (What to Do If You Are In a Tornado). See you on the next story, sincerely Meteorologist Jake!
