Did you know that Cinco de Mayo started over a war that Mexico won against france? Have you ever been to a Cinco de Mayo celebration or celebrated Cinco de Mayo with their family? The Cinco de Mayo tradition came from the city puebla. An important part of Cinco de Mayo is the food. Some foods and drinks that are eaten and drinked on Cino de Mayo are Tacos, Mole, and horchata.

Tacos
When you think of Mexican food you probably think of tacos. Mexican people are well known for their food, especially tacos. Well, yes, I will be talking about tacos and why it is important to Mexican culture. Tacos are quick and easy to make, they are also small so it makes them easy to eat. Traditional tacos use a corn tortilla sometimes even 2 and on the inside you have your choice of meat such as carne asada (beef), pork carnitas, lengua (tongue), al pastor, and chorizo. You can put onion, cilantro, lime, and a homemade salsa either green or red on top of the taco.

Mole
Mole is another big Mexican dish. Mole takes some time to make but when the dish is ready it is a very tasty dish. Mole has a red sauce so if you want to eat some mole I would say don’t wear a white shirt because after you eat some you might end up with a stain on your shirt. Mole is basically just the red sauce and chicken. Everyone makes their red sauce differently. The ingredients that my mom uses for her red sauce in her Mloe is flour (harina), green tomatoes (tomatillos), chiles colorado, chile pasilla, chiles negros, chiles de arbol, tomates (tomatoes), ajo (garlic)

Horchata
Horchata is a really popular drink in Mexican culture. It is a nice refreshing cinnamon drink. Horchata is not the biggest drink on cinco de mayo. It is actually an alcoholic drink. But for people that can’t or don’t drink alcohol, then horchata is on the top 5. Horchata always has some other drink to compete with it, mainly agua de jamaica (hibiscus water). People always debate about which one is the better drink. Personally I think horchata is better.

Food is a pretty important part in celebrations or events. Just like Mexican food is really important to Cinco de Mayo and Mexican culture. Food plays a big part in cultures, holidays, events, and in day to day life. Mexican culture is shared all over the world for everyone to enjoy.
