Personal Narrative: My First Concert
November 3, 2017
On Friday, September 22, 2017, I went to my first concert. The band Gorillaz were playing at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, and I was super ecstatic! After school, my mom and I stopped at Phillips 66, got gas, snacks, and drinks. Finally, we were ready to head out to Kansas City.
When we first got to the Sprint Center, we saw lots of people waiting outside. I and my mom decided to go into a restaurant across the street to freshen up. We had to wait for fifteen minutes outside for the doors to open so we could get to our seats. But while we were out there, there were lots of cool people in awesome shirts and costumes. Once the doors opened everyone hurried inside. After my mom and I went through a metal detector, we were able to come inside.
The first thing I saw was a huge store that sold expensive merchandise that I could get cheaper at Hot Topic or online; therefore we kept walking. My mom and I got our tickets scanned, and now we were able to get our snacks and go to our seats. Since our seats were up higher (row 27 seats 19 and 18), we had to ride a very high escalator that kind of made me freak out. What if the floor collapsed!? After we got our drinks and popcorn, we had about ten minutes to kill until the show started, but we decided to go to our seats now so we didn’t have to fight a crowd.
I personally regret coming to the show super early because I hated one of the two openers, “Danny Broken”, his voice was very shrill and he would rap and then start yelling in a deep voice that would come and go, that gave me a headache. On the other hand, I loved the first opener, Vince Staples, and I’m really glad I got to hear him rap live! After an hour of “Danny Broken” and Vince Staples there was the last break before Damon Albarn performed. When the break was over the lights got dim once more and Damon Albarn came onto the stage and the moment everyone was waiting for happened. He was on stage and gave a performance of a lifetime.
I knew every song, and when the music started, the power Damon Albarn had was just made the whole place feel electric! Once the last song (We Got the Power) was over everyone cheered so loud and for about two minutes. It made me happy to be honest. I and my mom left during the encore so we didn’t have to deal with heavy traffic.
When we left, I watched as we left the bright Grand Boulevard. After fifteen minuets on the road, I felt drowsy and fell fast asleep. While I was falling asleep, I thought to myself, ‘This has by far been the best day of my life.’
