Did you know that an estimated 35,000 to 70,000 plants are used in medicine? Or that more than 85% of plant life is found in the ocean? Have you ever wondered how a plant grows? Well, I’m going to tell you about the life of a plant. I will talk about the seedling and plant, and how the seed goes away from the plant for the cycle to repeat.

The first stage you need to know is the seed and its parts. Most people think that the seed has one part, but it actually has three parts: the seed coat, the endosperm, and the embryo. The seed coat protects the embryo from dying. The endosperm supplies nutrition to the embryo for the seed to grow. The embryo is the heart of the plant. It is what makes the seed grow.

The second stage is a seedling and that’s when the seed starts to grow. Have you ever wondered how the plant stays up? Well, that’s because of the root. The roots are like the building blocks of the plant. It absorbs all the nutrients and water in the soil. Do you know the reason why the plant is green? It’s because of the chlorophyll and the light it absorbs from the sun.

Do you wonder how why plants start growing in new places? The third stage is repopulation. One example of repopulation is when a dandelion’s yellow flower turns into white seeds that spread with the wind. Another example is the helicopter seeds that come from the Norway tree. The reason why they looked like a helicopter made it so the wind can pick up the seeds and spread them.

That was the life of a plant. Did you know that the smell of freshly-mown grass is actually a plant distress call? You should do more research about the life of a plant. I just scratched the surface of it. There are many different plants with many different lives. Plants are just like people because they both have stages in life.
