How to Clean Your Pair of Shoes

Before+and+After

Before and After

Did you have a favorite pair of shoes you wish you could’ve saved? I have that same feeling, but the problem is that we do not know what products to use on certain materials. Using certain products we can make our shoes look brand new and say, “Wow I just saved myself 150 bucks!”.

The first material you may want to know how to clean is Rubber/Foam, mainly used in Crocs, Yeezy, and Adidas Adilette. Rubber and foam have nearly the same process and it’s a pretty easy material to clean. All you need is some dish soap and cold water; make sure it’s cold. First, grab a cup and pour some cold water in it, add soap then get a sponge and a toothbrush (for the small holes) and rub the outside as much as you want then grab the toothbrush and clean the holes. Then you’re done.

The next material is canvas mainly used in Vans, Converse, and Blazers. There is one thing that you need to know is that they are machine washable. I do not recommend it, but here’s how to wash them. First, get your shoes and some color-safe detergent, and throw them in with either a shoe bag or a load with towels. Put it on warm (not hot) and keep everything you had it on previously the same. The second way is to buy a shoe cleaner. I don’t really have a favorite but a lot of people prefer the FZ150. You need two different types of brushes: soft bristle and hard bristle. Alternatively, you could use a toothbrush and some water with dish soap and just start scrubbing. Remember, when you see the foam you’re in your zone. Scrub until the stain is out and then you’re done.

Last but not least we have both suede and leather. Both are really hard materials to clean but it is doable. First, get a shoe cleaner with a hard bristle brush and a soft bristle brush. Brush off the dirt that you can with the hard bristle and pump the cleaner on the shoes and start scrubbin’. Once you scrub the noticeable stains and dirt use the hard bristle brush to revive the suede but not the leather. You DON’T want to scratch the leather. But now that’s all that you need to do.

I really hope this helps some of you (sneakerheads) who are looking for help cleaning these materials. I missed some other materials but these are the most popular ones. Some of these are harder to clean than others but it’s worth it in the end. I hope you enjoyed reading this story.
