Have you ever sat next to someone and wondered what their story is? Most of us may have. I recently got the opportunity to interview Martin J. Reynolds, an extraordinary 7th grader on the orange team. Some of the things I discovered about Martin include his favorite subject, his favorite relative, and even what he may want to do in the not-so-far future.
Q: What do you like to do most at home?
A: If it’s a nice day, I like to ride my bike. Though, if it’s a hot day, I like to take a nap or watch TV.
Q: What do you like about that activity?
A: In general I like riding a bike. It’s a good exercise and if you have friends you want to visit you can go with them. If it’s a hot day, watching TV or taking a nap is like a cool-down day.
Q: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go, and why?
A: I’d have to say Egypt because it’s a very historical place and it’s very cool in general. I’d also like to see the pyramids.
Q: Tell a story of who has impacted you the most in your life.
A: It’d probably be my dad. He impacted my life because he taught me a lot of things, he was there for me, and he was also just overall a great dad. I remember some videos of him – He played with me – A very typical dad but also a very adventurous dad.
Q: What do you like best about yourself?
A: Something physical it’s more of my capability of being able to bike a lot. For something mental, I feel I’m good at history. History just kind of snaps into my mind and it’s interesting to learn about the past of the Earth and how things have changed overall.
Q: What is one thing you’d like to do when you’re older, and why?
A: Possibly be a military officer because I think I have the wits and guts for it but also I want to help people with all these wars and stuff. And it’s just something I’d like to do for my dad.
Q: What’s your favorite subject and why?
A: I’d say world studies because Mr. Hawley is really nice and so is Ms. Doudna. I think it’s really nice because it’s advanced stuff and we learn enough and have a lot of fun. Also, we get snacks like Jolly Ranchers and Kit Kats.
Q: So far, what has your favorite grade been, and why?
A: Probably 7th grade because I get a new locker, a whole lot of new teachers, and I can play sports. It’s kind of boring in 6th grade because you can’t play sports.
Q: What has been one of the hardest grades, and why was it hard?
A: Probably 5th grade because it was a lot of people transitioning into that 6th grade life and there were a lot of immature people and it was really bugging me. There was still recess but it was hard on me.
Q: What might a regular school day look like to you?
A: First I’d get to school, then advisory (except for Wednesdays), then first block, second block I have the same teacher for advisory, 3rd block I have lunch on Wednesdays, and 4th block I have lunch every other day of the week. 5th block I have PE and 6th block is back to world studies.
Q: What do you like/dislike about school?
A: Something I like about school is I of course get to go to world studies but I also get to hang out with my friends and that just helps me calm down because some mornings I’m grumpy and I dislike that. Something I dislike is being a “big bad” person and just being rude to people.
Q: What are you the proudest of in your life?
A: I think I’m most proud of the fact of how well I can bond with people, such as my family and friends, and overall how easily I can make friends.
Q: How would you like to be remembered?
A: I’d like to be remembered as a person who cared for others and just in general as a great and fantastic friend, sibling, classmate, and more.
Q: Who is your favorite relative and why?
A: My twin cousin Atreyu because he’s played with me a lot and does most of the same things as me and has the same likes as me. We also bond together really well and he’s just family.
Q: Who has had the biggest influence in your life and why?
A: My biological father because he really played with me when I was younger and he was just the greatest dad you could ever know. He did a lot of things I wish he wouldn’t have done but he was there for all of us and took care of us and was just your very average dad.
JJ is a very social and kind person, who can befriend just about anyone. He enjoys having a good time in general and would like to be in the military one day. I hope this interview helped you, and thank you to everyone who helped publish this. Special thanks to JJ for allowing me to interview him.
