Have you ever done something you’ll never forget? Well, I have. In my 3rd-grade year, my dad asked if I wanted to do preseason nationals. I was so excited but I had to wait till October. I had practiced my hardest; the best I could. The tournament was big but very winnable.
As the day came to go to Iowa to weigh in, my dad had work. So I had to go up with people I didn’t know. I was overweight by a pound, doesn’t sound like much, but for a 3rd grader that weighs 40 pounds, that’s a lot. I didn’t know how to cut weight yet so I had to spit in a cup and not drink or eat. I snuck some goldfish though. As I got there, there were tons of kids everywhere to weigh. I stepped on the scale and weighed 39.9; .1 under the cut.
The next day I got ready to wrestle and was nervous, but excited too. My first match started in two matches. I ran down and started moving to get my blood pumping. As I came out and shook hands, I was not nervous anymore. I took him straight down and pinned him. Next, I wrestled the number 1 seed. He looked nervous to wrestle me. As I came out, I grabbed his leg and put him straight down for a pin in 30 seconds. I had two matches till the finals.
In my next match, he looked mad, and trust me he was. I got taken down, but got right back up and took him down. Then it was the second period and I started on the bottom. I got a reversal and got back on top. I put my hand under his arm and over his head to roll him over on his back. Then I pinned him. I was in the finals.
I walked out and grabbed my leg band(it goes on the ankle to see what color you will be for the point system). I look him straight in the eye. I shook his hand. The match was underway and I got put on my back in a headlock but got out and took him down. I got three back points, and now losing by one I got three more back points. I won the match 9-5. I had won nationals. I ran and jumped to hug my dad, making a great memory. I got up on the podium and was at the top. I was the happiest man ever.
Me and my dad got food and started driving home. I stayed up the whole time listening to music all the way home. I told everyone that I got a ginormous bracket and I got a medal. I also got put on the Gazette Newspaper. So, in the end, I showed you can do anything even if you’re scared or nervous, even stressed. But I overcame it and won. What will you do?
