“BANG!” The sound of the club hitting the ball will forever be engraved into my mind forever. Hi I’m Logan and I am going to tell you about how I got 2nd in my last golf tournament of the year.
It was August 14, 2023. My tee time was at 1:10 PM, so I had plenty of time to get up and move. It was around 11:30 PM when I had my lunch, which was only an Easy Mac I made in the microwave. I was hoping it would keep me from wanting more food. At 12:00 pm me and my brother drove to our dad’s house to let the dogs out and let me get my stuff. It was about 12:30 pm when me and my brother left our dad’s house. On our way to the course, I got a call from my dad. He said Marcus, “the league coach”, was asking where I was. It was 12:45 and I responded that I was on the way to the course. He said okay and hung up.
I got to the golf course at 12:50. I saw that the driving range was full, so I had to stick with the putting green. It was 1:05 when I got called up to the first tee box. It was a solo tournament so I didn’t have anyone to help me when I got a bad shot. My drive was terrible. I only hit it 100 yards just barely making it over a hill. My second shot was better. I hit it 120 yards but landed in the rough. My third shot landed onto the green but my happiness was short-lived when I putted an 8 or +4. The second hole was better when I got a double bogey. On the third hole, I shot a bogey which brought my score to seven over.
On hole four something snapped and I was able to make a par. On hole five I got a bogey. Hole six is not a hole I want to be on in a tournament…or so I thought. My first shot was beautiful because I hit it down the middle of the fairway. My second shot wasn’t as good as it landed behind a tree. My mind went crazy because the trees are my weak spot. When I looked at my shot, I realized that I still had a chance of making it to the green. I took out my chipping wedge and lined up my shot. I swung and…
It landed right next to the hole! I put my ball in and picked up a par.
It was hole seven. It’s my least favorite hole, and it showed by me hitting a +8. Hole eight was next. This hole was weird. Sure it’s only a par 3, but I am still learning what club to hit on the hole. I used my 8 iron for my first shot and got it onto the green but I three-putted and got a bogey. It was hole nine. I have not done very well the past times I have played this hole but this time was different. My first shot was a nice drive near the edge of the fairway next to the ditch. My second shot landed to the left of the fairway. My third shot landed on the edge of the green. I was doing good until I got to the putting when I five-putted. I just hoped I didn’t get last place. When I got to the clubhouse I turned in my scorecard and waited for about 20 minutes.
When the awards were being handed out, Marcus announced it by group. He said blue tees, then gold, and then red. He announced 3rd place, then my name. I was super excited that I got 2nd! I took photos and then left the golf course feeling great!
It is currently the off-season for golf, and the bowling season will begin soon. But that doesn’t mean you can’t go to a driving range and hit some golf balls or even go to Top Golf. This was my last tournament for the P.G.A JR league so I was happy and sad at the same time. But I get to play golf for middle school this year so it evens it out. If you love golf too, see you out there!
