Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have a dog? I have two dogs whose names are Rocky and Remy. I’m gonna tell you that I used to be scared to death about dogs, that all changed 3 years ago.
I was just at home watching TV waiting for my parents to get home. They told me they were going to Topeka to get a new couch that we had been waiting on. When they got home, my mom texted me to go outside to help pick up the couch, then put it in the living room. I remember as soon as I walked out the door I saw my mom with a camera and my dad holding a small little puppy. I was so excited when I first saw him. He was the cutest dog I had ever seen. My dad told me that he was very shy. He told me to be very calm around him. We went inside and he immediately started running around scared of me and my mom. He was the most comfortable around my dad because he was holding him the whole way home. We were very happy that he was potty trained after only two days of having him. He could go outside and use the restroom and come back in without us doing anything.
After 1 year with Rocky, me and my siblings said we wanted another dog. My mom hated the idea because she thought that 1 dog was enough. My dad thought it was a great idea to get another dog because Rocky never had a dog friend and my dad said he needed one. They started talking about it for weeks, debating on why they should and shouldn’t get another dog. Eventually, my mom agreed on getting another dog. But my parents decided that they should act like we weren’t getting another dog. The day I found out was while I was at a baseball practice with my dad. After practice my dad told me that my siblings and mom were going to get another dog, because my siblings didn’t know that. They thought they were going to Great Wolf Lodge to stay three days there. My mom called me to show me the new puppy that they just picked up and in the background I could see all my siblings crying because they were so happy. Me and my Dad went home to see Rocky and wait for the new puppy to arrive. After we got home Rocky was scared at first, but then after 1 hour he went absolutely crazy. He was overjoyed that he had a new friend to play with. Remy was very different from Rocky. Instead of being nervous, he was super happy every single moment in the car and also at home.
Rocky is now three and Remy is two. Life with my dogs has been amazing, especially during COVID times. They kept me and my family happy the whole time during COVID when it was bad. Rocky loves to go up to the window to look out and see if there are any squirrels for him to chase. The only thing Remy loves to do is get all of his belly rubs. If you just walk up to him he will roll over and wait for you to give him a belly rub or he will not move.
Getting dogs was the best decision I and my family have ever made. They have brought us so much joy over the past three years and we hope that there will be many more good years with our dogs.
