Have you ever gone to a fun summer camp? I have. Two summers ago, I had the opportunity to go to a week-long, overnight summer camp. I thought it would be really fun to go and do new things like riding a horse, archery, and canoeing so I decided to go. Little did I know that it would change my life forever.
Before going to camp, I was really excited about going. However, the day before leaving as I was packing my bags, I started to get worried about being away from home for so long and possibly not getting any sleep. I was also worried about how I had scraped my hand on a bookshelf a couple of weeks before and did not know how I was going to take care of it. I also was worried about how you were supposed to take a 5-minute shower and did not know if I could do everything that I needed to in that time.
On the day camp started, I was really excited about it, but at the same time, I was still anxious. I drove to camp with my cousins, my aunt, and my mom. We got all our stuff into our cabin and started to get to know the rest of our group. One of the games we played to get to know each other was “Mafia”. I also learned that the camp pool was closed for the day, but should be ready to use the next day. At first, I was kind of sad because I was looking forward to swimming a lot. At dinner, we ate food that I had expected to be bad because it was camp food. It was pretty good. After dinner, we had the evening chapel. And then we did a scavenger hunt all over the camp. After finishing the scavenger hunt, we returned to our cabin, took showers, got our snack, and then went to bed.
On the 2nd,3rd, and 4th days, we woke up, got dressed, and went to set up breakfast. After breakfast, we waited for the people to finish cleaning up the chairs and tables and then we had our morning worship. Then we all went to a certain place for our choice time activities. After that, we went to lunch. The next thing we did was a group activity and swimming. But the pool was closed for most of the week. Each day I had hoped that the pool would be open but there was something wrong with it every day. So, instead of going to the pool, we played water games outside the pool which were pretty fun. We then went with our group to dinner and went to chapel. Then we did a group activity. Then we took our showers, ate our snacks, and went to bed. While we were waiting to take our shower we would play fun card games with each other like “Exploding Kittens” and ” Tacocat Goat Cheese Pizza”. As we went to sleep a bunch of the other people in the boy’s cabin were making loud noises and jumping out of their beds which made it hard for me to sleep
On the 4th night, we all went to the camp closing campfire where we all told the whole camp our favorite camp memory. After the campfire, we had smores with our group. The next morning we woke up and went down to the dining hall to set up breakfast for the last time. After we ate, we went back to our cabin and gathered up all our things. Once we had all of our things packed up we took the camp survey and cleaned up the whole cabin. After that, we went down to the main building and had the final worship where parents came to see the final worship and to pick up their kids. After the worship, we returned to our cabin, got our stuff, and left. I was kind of sad to leave because I had made some good memories and friends.
Now that I look back on my first time going to Camp Chippewa, it was a really fun experience. And, overall, I was glad that I attended the camp. The week was overall really fun. I liked the new experiences that I had like riding a horse and fun new card games like “Taco-Cat-Goat-Cheese-Pizza” and “Exploding Kittens”. So if you ever have the chance to go to a week-long summer camp, I would say to do it.
