Have you ever wondered how much pollution an electric car produces during production compared to a gas car, how safe is self-driving and or what popularized it, or even how much does it cost to replace a battery on an electric car compared to an engine on a gas car? The answers to all of these questions are why I think electric cars should be banned. 

My first reason why I think electric cars should be banned is because they produce more pollution during the manufacturing of the battery than a gas car does during the manufacturing of the entire car. According to Autoexpress.com, “Around 5.6 tons of CO2 are released during a petrol or diesel car’s manufacture.” but according to Mckinsey.com, “producing a typical EV battery emits more than seven tons of CO2e emissions on the battery alone.” This means that there is more pollution being put into the air when an electric car is being built than when a gas car is being built.

My second reason why I think that electric cars should be banned is because of how dangerous self-driving is. According to Prospect.org, “ The overall fatal accident rate for auto travel, according to NHTSA, was 1.35 deaths per 100 million miles traveled in 2022. In other words, Tesla’s FSD system is likely on the order of ten times more dangerous at driving than humans.” This means that self-driving is more dangerous than regular driving.

My third and final reason is that it costs more to repair an electric battery than it does to replace an engine on a gas car. According to Cars.com,  “ Recurrent estimates the out-of-pocket cost for a battery replacement ranges from $5,000 to $20,000. The total cost largely depends on the pack, size and manufacturer of the battery.” Also, according to Way.com, “the average price of engine repairs can vary from $3000 to $4500.”   This means that if your battery fails you can pay up to $20,000 while if your engine fails you will only have to pay up to 4500$.

This is why I think electric cars should be banned. They make more pollution than a regular car does during production, self-driving is more dangerous than regular driving, and it costs more to repair an electric car battery than it does to repair a gas engine.
