Think back to the first time you can remember finding a song that truly clicked with you. Remember the first time you heard the notes and you were mesmerized by the song as if it was a siren’s; how the words embraced you and sympathized with what you were feeling. Think about your first concert and being surrounded by people who are just like you, think about the people that you met and how excited they were just like you. Now for me that song was “Be Nice to Me ”, by The Front Bottoms. It introduced me to the band which has since become my favorite band, and the subject of my first concert. Because I have since fallen in love with the band, I have found a few of the songs that I like more than others, so that’s what my list is about the top 5 The Front Bottoms songs. WARNING many of these songs have explicit lyrics that some people find unwanted. Keep this in mind if you are planning to listen to these songs.
Lonely Eyes
Number 5 is “Lonely Eyes” in the album Ann. The album of Ann was released in 2008 and is one of their earlier albums. “Lonely Eyes” is a song about someone struggling and not knowing how to help their friend who has been dealing with depression. Overall this song has related to things many have experienced especially in this time in history with the effects of social media on younger minds. This song is one of The Front Bottoms more popular at number 5 as said by Discotech.
Montgomery Forever
Number 4 on my list is “Montgomery Forever” on the album In Sickness & In Flames. “Montgomery Forever” was released in 2020 the year of the pandemic. “Montgomery Forever” is a song about how sometimes when you find someone and they are your home and your safe place when they leave you can feel like you have nothing anymore. This song is superb at showing that lots of relationships, whether friendship or more, can seem like they will last forever but when they don’t it’s not always a bad thing it just takes some time to move on. “Montgomery Forever” isn’t in Discotech’ top ten, but I feel this song highlights very important points and is overall an outstanding song.
Au Revoir (Adios)
Number 3 is “Au Revoir (Adios)” from the album Talon of the Hawk. The Talon of the Hawk album was released in 2013 and is actually one of their most famous albums. “Au Revoir (Adios)” is a song about having relationships when you’re an artist and how leaving to go on tour affects the relationships. This is a really catchy song and makes the people behind the songs more human. Is the band’s 8th most popular song according to Discotech.
Lipstick Covered Magnet
Number 2 is “Lipstick Covered Magnet” from the album Rose. This song was released in 2008 which is actually the year that my brother was born. “Lipstick Covered Magnet” is a song about the miscommunication that can happen in a relationship and how not everyone will respect what the other has to say. This song is really helpful to show that not every relationship has respect from both sides, or works in the long run. “Lipstick Covered Magnet” is this band’s 6th most popular song also according to Discotech.
Be Nice to Me
Number 1 on my list is “Be Nice to Me” in the album Rose, the song that got me into the band and my love for it has since grown. “Be Nice to Me” was released in 2008. “Be Nice to Me” is a song about change in a relationship, and how it changes the dynamics of the people in the relationship and can make them feel less important if they don’t change. It is a very honest song and shows some of the emotions that most people will experience at some point in their life and will have to navigate. “Be Nice to Me” is one of The Front Bottoms’ most popular songs along with “Twin Size Mattress” according to Discotech
It was very hard to pick just 5 of the songs and I debated for literal days to pick these. Some of the honorable mentions are Twin Size Mattress, Wolfman, Skeleton, and Everyone Blooms. This band has so many good songs covering so many different aspects of life that people may go through. All of their songs are touching in their own way and all of them paint a beautiful life. I highly recommend listening to some of their songs, and, who knows, you might fall in love with The Front Bottoms too.
