I’m going to talk about the top 5 greatest point guards of all time. Usually the point guard is the shortest player in the starting lineup but there are some point guards that are really tall, like Magic Johnson. I’m going to be talking about Russell Westbrook, Jerry West, Oscar Robertson, Magic Johnson, and Stephen Curry.
Number 5 Russell Westbrook
Russell Westbrook was drafted in 2008 with the 4th overall pick. Even though he never won an NBA title, he is still known as one of the best players of all time. In the 2017 to 2018 season he averaged a 30-point triple-double which is really impressive, plus he won the league MVP. He is also the leader of triple-doubles and has recorded 25 thousand points in his career.
Number 4 Jerry West
Jerry West was drafted in 1960 with the 2nd overall pick. In his career he managed to win 1 NBA title. He made the all-NBA 1st team 10 times in his career but he never won a league MVP. In his time he was one of the greatest scorers and passers the league had ever seen. After he retired he became the manager for the Lakers which is the team he played for.
Number 3 Oscar Robertson
Oscar Robertson was drafted in 1960 with the 1st pick. He was picked over Jerry West who was the 2nd pick. In his career he won 1 NBA championship, he also had 1 league MVP in the 1964 season. Before Russell Westbrook, he was the all-time leader in triple-doubles with 181 of them. Oscar Robertson retired in the 1972 season which was his 12th season.
Number 2 Magic Johnson
Magic Johnson was drafted in 1979 with the number 1 overall pick. In his career he managed to win 5 NBA championships, and also had 3 league MVPs. He is mainly known for being the greatest passer of all time, and he is also the tallest point guard ever in the NBA, he is 6 foot 9. Sadly he missed a couple years of being in the NBA because he got a really bad illness that back then meant you were probably going to die. The good thing is, he recovered and made a return to the NBA a couple years later.
Number 1 Stephen Curry
Stephen Curry was drafted in 2009 with the 7th overall pick. In his career, he managed to win 4 NBA championships and had 2 league MVPs. He is mostly known for his 3-point shooting. He holds the record for most threes in someone’s career by a lot. In his career his main rival was Lebron James who he recently became good friends with. Stephen Curry also has the best jump shot we have ever seen in the NBA.
