Did you know the most-watched football game is the Rose Bowl and not the College Football Playoff National Championship? At least two teams might be competing in these games from a different conference. The Oklahoma Sooners and The Texas Longhorns are moving out of the Big 12 and into the SEC, which will bring even more competition to the SEC which is one of the toughest and might be the toughest conference there is in college football. Some of the teams they will be facing are Alabama, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Florida Gators, Georgia, and Auburn.
The Oklahoma Sooners had an amazing season this year finishing 10-2 in the regular season and losing their bowl game to Arizona on Thursday, December 28th, 2023, 38 to 24 after Arizona came back in the 3rd quarter for the win. OU has had tremendous success in the Big 12 winning 43 national championships across all sports with 7 of those coming from football. Now that they are moving to the SEC, there will be even more competition. The Texas Longhorns had one of the best seasons they’ve had going to the National Championship but losing to Washington 37 to 31. They went 12-2 in the regular season with one of those losses coming from OU 34- to 30. In their time with the Big 12 they have 65 national championships from every sport they offer with 4 of them coming from football. Even though they had so much success in the Big 12 all good things must come to an end.
The SEC is the hardest college football conference in the NCAA with the best teams being Alabama Crimson Tide, Ole Miss, Georgia Bulldogs, and the Tennessee Volunteers. Those are the hardest teams there are so there will be a lot of competition. This will give OU and Texas even a greater chance of getting a playoff spot in the new 12-team playoffs because if they beat these tougher teams that’s how they will have a greater playoff spot. The NCAA changed the playoff rules back in September of 2022 and they are now just putting in the rules into effect after the college football playoffs which Michigan won over Washington 34 to 13.
Even though both teams had a lot of success in the Big 12, all good things must come to an end. They will have even better competition though and have a better shot of making the playoffs and could win more national championships. The new change in competition will be a lot harder for them to adapt to. It will be alright since they both are very competitive teams. This change will also bring some much-needed change to the SEC.
