Have you ever been to Kansas or a town in Kansas? If not I am going to tell you about Kansas, because I live in Kansas.

Kansas is located in the Midwestern United States. Kansas is the 34th state. “Kansas is divided into 105 counties and contains 627 incorporated municipalities consisting of cities, “says (Wikipedia).  “Kansas has a population of 2,929,909 people, within the last decade the population went up by 6%”  (World Population). Kansas became a state on January 29, 1861.

Kansas is a Great Plains setting of rolling wheat fields. The state bird is a Western meadowlark. The capital of Kansas is Topeka. Nicknames for Kansas are, “Sunflower State; Wheat State; Jayhawk State” (History.com).  “Ad astra per aspera (“To the stars through difficulties” state motto) (History.com). “Kansas is the leading producer of wheat in the United States. Referred to as The Wheat Capital of the World, “Sumner County produced 9 million bushels in 2009” (History.com).

I live in Emporia Ks, which has 24,816 people. Emporia is in between Topeka and Wichita. Emporia is a college town of Emporia State University and Flint Hills Technical College. Emporia was founded in 1857. The climate in Emporia, “the city averages about 60 rainy days per year, 59 days with high temperatures of 90 °F (32 °C) or higher, and 124 days with low temperatures below freezing. The average temperature in January is 29 °F (−2 °C), and in July it is 79 °F (26 °C). Annual snowfall averages 10.2 inches (25.9 cm)” (Wikipeda).

In conclusion, the Best thing about living in Kansas is that there is a lot of country land. Bad things about living in Kansas is that there are not very many kid things to do.  I hope you learned something. I hope you can go to Kansas someday and visit the state of sunflowers.
