Big moments/team history
The El Salvador team qualified for two World Cups in 1970 and 1982 but they didn’t do as well against other qualified teams. Another big moment was the Salvadorian defeat against Hungary (10-1) El Salvador’s only goal they scored was by Luis Ramirez Zapata. It was also the only goal they scored in the FIFA World Cup. This caused “the football war of 1969” because tensions were very high. El Salvador was mad because they lost and at their home game El Salvador lost big again against Houndouras which resulted in violence and riots both off and on the field which lead to a war that lasted 4 days.
