Have you ever wondered what are the best breeds of cats? What are the cutest, fluffiest, and just generally most fantastic types of cats? Well, if you have, you’ve come to the right place! I’m going to be naming my personal favorite breeds of cats, and explaining why I think that they’re the best of the best.
- Siamese Cats
Siamese cats are probably some of the prettiest cats I have ever seen. They are mainly known for their cream-colored fur with brown on their faces, ears, paws, and tail, their athletic build, and their bright blue eyes. They have a regal air around them, like they know their place in life. Honestly, I wish I acted like a Siamese cat. They just seem unusually calm about everything, like most cats. Unless they’re angry, which I feel like they would be passive-aggressive at best. At worst, though, it feels like they would instantly, straight-up attack you for even looking at them wrong. So yeah, definitely my kind of cat. The only reason they’re number four on my list is mainly because they’re not all that cute. Like, of course I love cats, but they have to make me absolutely lose my mind, or else they probably won’t end up being anything but one of my favorite animals, or just pretty.
- Somali Cats
Somali cats are really, really nice to look at; or me, at least. I know that I just really like fluffy cats. So, of course I would have to mention them. Somalis are mainly known for their rich copper fur, but they come in many different colors, such as silver, cream (a rather pale tan, or can look kind of white), lilac (a soft-looking gray), or brown. Somali cats kind of remind me of squirrels, with their sleek bodies and long fur. Or tigers or lions, with their sharp eyes and alert nature. I honestly just like orange cats, and these were some of my favorite-looking orange cats. I feel like they would be friendly, but viscous at the same time; a good combination for a cat. They also seem like they could handle themselves well, like they would be competent out in the wild if that ever happened. Overall, a really good cat breed, but they don’t rank higher on my list because I can imagine that maintaining their fur would get really tiring, and I can assume they would shed like crazy in spring and summer, and I just wouldn’t want to have to deal with that. Really pleasing on the eyes, but probably a pain to manage the fur.
- Maine Coon Cats
We all know about Maine coons, whether we like it or not. Maine coons are those big cats that kind of look like mountain lions, with the ear tips like bobcats. They kind of remind me of large dog breeds, playful and excitable and just overall fun to be around if you have a lot of energy, and are okay with having a lot of space taken up. Because trust me, these cats are huge, like medium-sized-dog huge. These cats are known for their long, fluffy fur, and their athletic builds. They just seem like cats that could do almost anything they wanted—or bulldoze anything they wanted. Maine coons are a cat breed that everyone wants, but will probably never have. They just seem like a cat of dreams. Cuddly, and will probably always want to be around you and have your attention, but also smart enough to not run into a neighbor’s yard? Yeah, there’s no way this cat is real. They are number two on the list because yes, they are incredibly adorable, but they just seem too… Dog-like for me. They honestly seem like more of a mix of a cat and a large dog to me.
- Munchkin Cats
And finally, I have to include the munchkin cat. If you’ve never seen or heard of them, you’ll wish you had. Munchkin cats have a form of disproportionate dwarfism, which leaves them with short legs with fairly long bodies, just like weiner dogs. It might sound gross or weird, but trust me, these cats are absolutely, positively, one hundred percent adorable. Munchkins will always be fun-sized, which is honestly so cute to me. They have this short gremlin kind of personality, like a chaotic kid or something. They kind of remind me of chihuahuas; little ankle-biters, like most small animals. Honestly, for some reason, they seem like they’re on catnip all the time. They just seem playful, like kittens, forever. They’re just little furballs that will stay cuddly and pocket-sized for the rest of their lives. I can assume that they are fairly low maintenance because, with their small bodies, they probably wouldn’t need as much food as a normal cat. Or, on the complete other side of the scale, they will have to eat more to make up for their lack of just general size. There will probably be no in-between.
To conclude, the four greatest cats are the munchkin cats: tiny fluffballs that will never stop being cute and little, Maine coon cats: huge, playful warriors, Somalis: sleek and (hopefully) friendly, and Siamese cats, the regal and calm. They are ranked specifically on looks, the personality that I can assume they have, or just what level of maintenance they could require based on what they look like. I wish I could include every kind of cat on this list, but a few honorable mentions are the khao manee, white cats with heterochromia, or multi-colored eyes. They have beautiful blue and yellow eyes, but to be fair, I had no idea this specific breed of cat existed until I did a bit of research for this. Another honorable mention would probably have to be the ragamuffin cat. I kind of just like fluffy cats, they’re just so beautiful.
