Have you ever wondered why a class might be so important? Maybe it’s the information, maybe it’s the people that make up that class, or maybe it’s the teacher that you have that makes the class fun. Well, whatever it is, I’m here to tell you why World Studies has been such an amazing class for me, and the things I’ve learned so far.
In World Studies, a class taught by Mr. Hawley, I learned pretty early on that you will fail. And that’s okay, because failure is a natural part of life, and it isn’t the end of the world, because failing helps you grow and improve so you won’t make the same mistake again. That was a pretty hard lesson to learn, being so afraid of even a slight failure and all, but in the end, that lesson’s an important one to learn, because if you’re so afraid of failing that you never try anything new, it’ll just end up holding you back. That was actually one of the reasons I joined track. Because I knew that even if I failed, it wouldn’t really matter. Those failures would just inspire me to get better.
Another essential thing you have to learn in World Studies is time management. Because World Studies is a mix of ELA and Social Studies, you have to do a considerable amount of writing in that class. So you have to learn how to manage your time. As Mr. Hawley would say, “Take a bite of the apple instead of trying to swallow it hole.” So basically, that means that you have to try and do things a little bit at a time instead of procrastinating so much that you feel like you need to do everything in like ten minutes and making it look horrible and rushed. It might seem like a lot of work, but you have to do it eventually, so it’s easier to do everything in little portions until you’re done. Slowly but surely, right?
Something that you’re bound to learn in World Studies with Mr. Hawley, pretty early in the year really, is that everything you do is a choice. It’s a choice to do any of your assignments, it’s a choice to do the things required of a good person, it’s a choice to come to class every day to learn more about history, it’s a choice to do anything you do. That you are making active decisions to do the things you do, so you should always try to make the good choices in life. It might not always be necessarily easy, sometimes it’s nearly downright impossible, but if you at least know that you’re trying to make the decisions to do the right thing, you’ll be alright.
So, while not everything you learn in World Studies might not be very important to you, because it might not be part of what you want to do in life when you get older, but there are some actual life lessons that you should really take out of that class, like failure is okay and a natural part of life, take little steps in whatever it is you might be doing, (don’t try to get it all done in a rush) and every action is a choice, so always try and make the better ones. If you get put in Mr. Hawley’s World Studies class, try to keep these in mind!
