Have you ever wanted to get better at football but didn’t know what drills to do? Well today I am going to tell you what drills you can do to get better. It is important to know what drills to do to get better because once you get better, then you could make the varsity team or maybe even the pros. If you are wanting to make it far in football, you should keep reading.
The first thing that I am going to talk about is conditioning. Conditioning is important because a lot of players have to play all 4 quarters of the game, and in the 4th quarter you won’t want to be tired so that you can be able to make plays. A drill that you can do to condition is the four quarters drill. In the drill you do 1 yard, 20 yard, and 30 yard sprints, and in between each one you get a rest however many yards you run. The last step in the drill is you run 100 yards alternating with sprints and strides every 20 yards.
The next thing that I am going to talk about is blocking. Blocking is important because it helps the offense move the ball down field. If the offensive line can’t block, it would be really hard for the offense to advance the ball down the field. A drill you can do to get better at blocking is drive blocking a blocking sled. In the drill you start in a 3-point stance, then you fire up with your hands into the pad then start pushing it back like it’s a defender you are blocking in a game.
The next thing that I am going to talk about is tackling. Tackling is important because if you are able to make good tackles, then you won’t let your opponent score easy touchdowns on you. If you can’t make tackles, then your opponent will score lots of touchdowns on your team and then you will lose. A drill that you can do to get better at tackling is the Oklahoma drill. There are different numbers of people that you can do Oklahoma drill with, but I am going to talk about it with 6 people. In the drill there are 2 offensive linemen, 2 defensive linemen, a running back, and a linebacker. The 2 offensive linemen will block the 2 defensive linemen, and then the linebacker will try to tackle the person with the ball, the running back.
The last thing that I am going to talk about is offensive drills. Offensive drills are important because some positions on offense are meant for catching the ball and some are meant for getting the ball handed off to them. A drill that you can do to get better at catching the ball is clockwork. In the drill the person with the ball will throw you the ball on your left side, right side, over your head, and under your waist when you are standing still. The point of the drill is to catch the ball outside your body in a variety of positions. A drill that you can to to get better at taking handoffs is running back handoff drill. In the drill there are two lines facing each other and on one side the first guy in line has a football, then the guy with the football runs and hands off the ball to the first guy in the other line and then it just keeps going.
In conclusion, those are all ways to get better at football. I talked about conditioning, blocking, tackling, and offensive drills to get better. If you want to play football but don’t know any drills to get better, I hope you know now after reading my story.
