Have you ever thought about how lucky you are? Well, here’s a fact that will get you thinking. According to this website, for every minute the shower is running water you are using 2.5 gallons of water. (That’s crazy) I can’t believe that we use that much water on just one task while there are some people in Africa and so many other places in the world that don’t have any. So, in this story, I’m going to tell you about my experience in Italy and how I saw all of these eye-opening things that made me realize just how lucky I am.
On our first day in Italy, we were in Rome. This was our first day in Italy but our 3rd day of the trip. The first thing we did once we got to Rome was go to our hotel after we had checked in. We decided to go outside and look at some of the beautiful monuments that Rome has to offer. The next day we went to the Colosseum, and let me tell you it is a very historical and pretty monument. If you want to learn more about it, here is a link. We also got to go to Pisa that day to see the Leaning Tower. On the third, and last, day we got to look around the city and see more of the monuments. This was the day that I started to realize all these buildings were hundred-year-old ones and even all the shops
that had modern things were old brick buildings. I also noticed the roads were all stone or brick and they still had all the old aqueducts.
The next place that we visited was Luka. This is a small city surrounded by a wall that is located in the Tuscany area. This was one of my family’s favorite places that we went to. It was a small place that was surrounded by this big wall and most of the people that lived there lived outside the wall. Inside of it ( Which is where we stayed ) was a ton of churches, shops, restaurants, and hotels. One of the best things about this place was that a lot of people didn’t drive cars, they rode bikes. Me and my family did this too and it was so much fun with all of the trails they have along the wall. Now in this city, all of the buildings were brick and stone which looked really cool, but I don’t think I saw a single modern-day building that we were used to. This place was overall really cool but it was just more rustic and not as modern as we were used to. We also got to take a really cool day trip to Pompei and see all of the old ruins that they have kept. And it was just really cool to see how people’s houses and shops used to be back in the day.
The last place that I got to visit was Venice. If you don’t know, Venice is a city that instead of roads, has waterways. This was my family’s second favorite place we went. It was such a cool experience to see how the people got around without cars and everywhere you looked there were boats in the water. Also, lots of people walked because there were a ton of sidewalks and bridges. This was one of the more modern places that we visited but it still had an older feel to it. We also got to visit three other little islands that are by Venice. These
islands had a less modern feel and were a little older. But at one of the islands all of the buildings were painted bright colors, and at one of the other islands they had a ton of handmade lace shops. These were all really cool places and they each had their own modern feel but they also all had older buildings and they didn’t have very good heating or air conditioning.
I loved all of the places I visited and it really made me realize how modern and lucky we are to have things like good roads, air conditioning, good buildings, and lots more. This was a very cool experience that made me open my eyes to how lucky we are. And this made me stop taking things for granted and appreciate the little things. I hope you can too.
