Have you ever had to play on a new team where you don’t know anyone, you’re not sure what you’re going to do, and you don’t know how you are going to play with others? Well, I will be telling you my story about how it was for me to move from the Rec to moving to the Emporia Middle School soccer team.
When it was the first day of tryouts for soccer, I knew no one besides my friends. I was scared and nervous because I didn’t know anyone there or what I was going to need to do. It was a bit difficult the first couple of practices because I was new to doing it the way the coaches at the Emporia Middle School teach us. We had to run more and the skills were more difficult. And I didn’t know some of the coaches very well so I didn’t know how they would be or how they would act. Were they nice or mean? Were they good or bad coaches?
In the middle of the season I noticed that it wasn’t so bad. I got to know them and they were actually really funny. The coaches were also really nice and good coaches. I learned a lot from them and I was able to get faster than I used to be. My teammates were also good at playing soccer, so it made it easy to get to know how they play and what they do. I also learned a lot from my teammates, but especially one of my teammates. She was a great player and person. She helped me get better at soccer and had lots of faith and trust in me.In the last couple of practices we all got to know each other pretty well and it was fun with all of them. They were all really good and they have a lot of potential for them in the future.
The last game was sad because I didn’t know them at first, but now I got to know them. It will be weird because I will need to meet new people next year and will need to get to know them; how they play and also how they act. It will also be weird because I will need to be a leader and show them what they will need to practice and stretch. It will be weird for the new people next year also because they won’t know anyone as much and will also need to get used to the coaches and their teammates.
I realized that it wasn’t so hard to get used to playing for Emporia Middle School. Yes, it could feel weird not knowing anyone, but once you practice with them more, you start to get used to them and learn how they are and how they play, and it gets easier. I also got more comfortable with them and started to be my normal self around my teammates. If you are thinking about joining soccer, I definitely would because to me it is worth it, you get to meet new people, get to know how to play soccer, and you get to be happy when you win games.
