A dark shadowy figure creeps up behind you and puts a barrel to your head. What do you do? Do you run or do you stay? If you have a firearm, then this could be an easier decision. With gun control laws making it more strict, we can not bear firearms for defense. I think that gun control laws should stay the same because criminals can obtain firearms illegally even if we get rid of them. Also, gun control laws are discriminatory. Finally, it goes against The Second Amendment.
My first reason is that criminals can obtain firearms illegally. According to NRA-ILA, “Criminals overwhelmingly obtain their firearms through illegal channels and will never be deterred by state and federal laws.” This means that even if we get rid of access to citizens owning firearms, criminals can get weapons and firearms illegally or make their own.
My second reason is that gun control laws are discriminatory. According to Britannica ProCon.org, “Current gun control laws are frequently aimed at inner city, poor, black communities who are perceived as more dangerous than white gun owners.” This means that an innocent black person with a firearm could be stopped for no reason while a white person with a weapon would be left alone unless doing something obviously illegal.
My third reason is that gun control laws are going against the Second Amendment. According to Britannica ProCon.org, “c” This means that even the fourth president thought that we should be allowed to own firearms. People may say that The Second Amendment only applies to a well-regulated militia ( a citizen owning multiple guns)but any person 17 years of age to 45 years of age can buy a firearm.
Clearly gun control laws should stay the same. In this article ,I have told you that gun control laws are discriminatory and criminals can obtain firearms illegally.
