Did you know that more than 220,000 children under 19 years old are treated in the emergency room for bike-related incidents and a good percentage of them are car-related too? That’s why you need to be street smart because a lot of things could happen.
Riding to practice can just be a normal thing, but if you are not careful it can turn a lot worse. All it takes is one movement or not checking the street before you cross it and it will end up bad.
A perfect example of this happening is this. One time when I was going on a ride with my friends everything was going well for 30 miles on gravel until I was going home after we were done. I looked away from the road for one second, and I steered a just a little bit left. Before I could react my tire jammed into the edge of the sidewalk and I flung over the handlebars.
Luckily, my knee and my hands were the only things that got the worst of it but my knee was in bad shape because it was the first to make contact with the gravel. My bike got a little scratched up too but it wasn’t too bad. I made my way home as my knee dripped blood all over my bike and shoe but I managed to get home Ok.
And to make sure you don’t end up any worse, you should always wear your safety equipment that is necessary during the time/place. You should always wear a helmet and maybe have a reflective attachment or clothes at night so people can see you, so it does not end up worse than an alone bike crash.
That’s why on your way to your bike practice you should be sure you are paying attention to your surroundings and being safe. Because it could be a lot worse than you could ever think if you make one wrong move. And if you think that you could be in danger from not wearing the correct safety equipment, you should check out this website on what equipment you should have during your ride.
