Do you have a favorite animal? Well, today I’m going to tell you my top five favorite animals. Each paragraph is sectioned into pieces. First, I will name the animal, then a description of the animal, then where they are found, then their diet, and finally,y why they made the list.
The first animal is a Barn Owl. Barn Owls are a mix of white, cream, and golden-brown feathers, and sometimes have darker markings; they are medium-sized with a wingspan ranging from 80 to 95 cm (about 31 to 37 inches), and their bodies measure around 33 to 40 cm (13 to 16 inches) in length. They live in parts of North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and Africa. Barn owls eat rodents, rats, and other small mammals like rabbits. Barn owls are on this list because they are pretty and I love owls.
The next animal is a Pygmy Hippo. Pygmy Hippos are 400 to 600 kilograms (880 to 1,320 pounds) and stand about 70 cm (27 inches) tall at the shoulder; they have a rounder, more compact body with thick skin which is generally dark gray or brown. Pygmy hippos are found in the dense forests, swamps, and rivers of West Africa (Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea). Pygmy Hippos mainly eat grass, fruits, leaves, and aquatic plants. The Pygmy Hippo made it on the list because of a special baby Pygmy Hippo named Moo Dang, absolutely adorable.
The next animal is Capybara. Capybaras can weigh between 35 to 66 kg (77 to 146 lbs), and they can grow up to 1.2 meters (4 feet) in length; they have a heavy, barrel-shaped body which sits on relatively squat legs, shorter in the front than the back. Capybaras live in the wetlands, rivers, lakes, and marshes of South America (Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, Argentina, Peru, Paraguay, Bolivia, and Uruguay). They eat grasses, aquatic plants, fruits, tree bark and leaves, and seeds and grains. Capybaras are on the list because they are cute and look like a Pygmy Hippo had a kid with a cow.
The next animal is the Red Panda. Red pandas have a body length of 50–64 cm (20–25 inches) and a tail length of 28–59 cm (11–23 inches) and they usually weigh between 3–6 kg (6.6–13.2 lbs). Red pandas live in the eastern Himalayas and southwestern China (Nepal, India, Bhutan, Myanmar, China). They eat bamboo, fruits, nuts and acorns, insects, eggs, and small mammals or birds. They made the list because they are absolutely adorable and I’ve always loved them.
The last animal is Axolotl. Axolotls are normally 6 to 18 inches (15 to 45 cm) long. Axolotls are native to Lake Xochimilco and other lakes around Mexico City. They eat small fish, worms, invertebrates, and other small animals. Axolotls made this list because they look funny and are cute.
That’s my list of my top five favorite animals. I chose them because they are cute except for the Barn Owl which is pretty. A runner up was the Lemon Shark because it’s one of the only sharks that has a yellow colored body, but wasn’t good enough to make my top five. If I could have one as a pet, I wouldn’t be able to choose. What about you? Which one would you keep as a pet? If you like cute animals then here’s a link of Moo Deng being adorable: link.
