If you didn’t know, soccer has been around for over 2,000 years. I have been playing soccer since I was 6 years old and I’ve played for the rec and the Emporia Middle School. So, if you ever wanted to learn more about soccer, you should read this story.
Soccer came from 19th-century Britain before medieval times, but in 1863 there was a meeting that involved clubs from metropolitan London and surrounding counties where they created the rules of soccer.
Soccer is a team sport where two teams with eleven players try to score a goal in the opposing team’s goal. The team that scores more goals wins. The ball has to stay on the field inside the lines. If the ball goes out, the other team gets the ball. The games length is two 45 minutes halves and half time is 15 minutes. There is no stopping the time for any reason. If you break the rules, there are consequences. A yellow card is a warning for fouls, arguing, or time wasting. A red card is when you get out of the game for the rest of the time and miss the next game and the team plays with one less player.
You can play for a professional team, but you can also play for your country. How you can get to play with your national team is playing well and winning games. The international trophies you can win with your national team are the FIFA World Cup(the biggest one to win). Other ones depend on where you’re from, like the teams that can play in the Euros is mostly from the European continent. Another one is the Copa America, for which you must be part of a national team that is a member of the South American Football Confederation. You could also win the Olympic gold medal with your national team. These are the biggest ones that come up when you think about trophies to win with your national team.
