Have you ever wondered about those weird things that are flopping around in the water? Well, those are fish, and I’m going to tell you a little bit about these interesting creatures. The fish I’m going to talk about are Bass, Blue Gill, and Catfish. I picked these fish because they are common in Kansas. I’m going to explain what they are, where they are, what they are like.
First is the Bass. It is a common pond fish with spikes on the top of its body. There are two basic types of bass in Kansas: Largemouth and Smallmouth. Usually, they are anywhere there’s water. They like neutral baits, not big and flashy or small and quiet.
Next is the Bluegill. They are a panfish, which is a type of fish which fits perfectly in a pan and is good to eat. They usually live in ponds and small bodies of water. They like small baits or worms. Super easy to catch and if you’re catching to eat they taste pretty good
Finally, the Catfish. They are large fish with cat-like whiskers, which is where they get their names. They are in lots of bodies of freshwater, usually in muddy water. They like being in muddy water so that they can dig in and make a little cave. They like being in their cave so that if a fish wanders in they can chomp them.
Bass, Bluegill and Catfish are some of the most common fish around Kansas. Now that you know what those weird things in the water are, you can go out and catch them and actually know what to call them besides a fish.
