Have you ever thought about what a life of a pilot is like? Have you ever thought about what struggles and problems a pilot goes through? Today, in this story, we will dive into the life of a pilot, and that pilot is Jacob. Let’s first know who Jacob is.
(DISCLAIMER: Everything said about Jacob is fake, treat as fictional)
Jacob was born in Pensacola, Florida, in a very wealthy family. He’d always dreamed of becoming a pilot and flying to his favorite famous place, the Eiffel Tower. After a few years of flight training and logging flight hours, he had finally received his pilot’s license and is now an airline pilot.
Now we know about Jacob and his passion for flight and his dream to see the Eiffel Tower. Let’s now see his daily routine as a pilot.
At 4:30 AM, Jacob wakes up. He’s mostly used to it now, since it’s part of his job. After a quick shower and a cup of black coffee, he grabs his already-packed flight bag, wearing his crisp uniform and his ID badge, and walks out of his door into the crisp morning.
At 5:15 AM, Jacob arrives at the airport, goes to the crew lounge, and meets up with his co-pilot, Eric, and they do their pre-flight briefing. Their flight for today is a round trip from Dallas, Texas, to Seattle, Washington. He goes over the weather conditions, flight plan, fuel requirements, and any potential delays with the dispatcher.
At 6:00 AM, he gets on the tarmac to inspect the aircraft, the Boeing 737. He runs through his checklist, making sure everything is in order. Once on the flight deck, he programs the flight management system, double-checks instruments, and coordinates with air traffic control. And once the passengers board the plane, they finish the final preparations.
At around 6:15 AM and 6:30 AM, Jacob and Eric taxi to the runway and with the clearance of the tower, they push the throttle and then take off, on their way to Seattle.
At 7:45 AM, Jacob then engages autopilot on the plane, monitors the instruments, talks with Eric, and checks in with ATCs (Air Traffic Control). He also sips some coffee from time to time from his thermos and gazes down at the Rockies below him.
At 9:00 AM, Jacob does the final preparations for landing and lands at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. After de-briefing and powering down the systems, there was a brief rest while the ground crew prepared the plane for its return flight to Dallas.
At noon, they do their final preparations, finish their checklist, and then taxi to the runway and take off, flying their way to Dallas.
At 3:55 PM, Jacob finally lands the plane back in Dallas. He does the final shutdown and debrief with the co-pilot and also logs the flight data.
At 4:45 PM, he arrives back home. He takes a short shower and a quick dinner, and has some time with his dog, Boltz, to help him unwind for the day. He then reads a book and sets an alarm for tomorrow.
He wakes up in the morning again, ready to start another day as a pilot.
And there you have it, the daily life of a pilot. From starting the day to flying, unwinding, and waking up again to transport other passengers to other cities and back.
