Have you ever wondered what goes on at a cheer practice? If you have wondered that, then this story will be for you. I will be telling you about warm-ups, learning cheers, and stunting.
Right when we get to cheer we start doing warm-ups. We warm up so that our body won’t cramp and so we won’t pull a muscle. First, we stretch our arms, legs, and do core workouts. Another thing we do is we also practice doing jumps and kicks. Some jumps are toe touches, hurdlers, and pikes. Finally, we usually will run laps around the school to be better at cardio.
After we stretch, usually the coach will teach us a new cheer to practice. She shows us the cheer and we practice it until we feel comfortable with it. We will practice for about 15 minutes. After we practice the new cheer, we will practice all of the other cheers.
The final thing that we do is stunt. Stunting is where 2 bases toss a flyer into the air and catch them. While the flyer is in the air, the back base holds the flyer’s ankles. The back base also catches the flyer’s arms when they come down. Next, you need 2 side bases who grab the flyer’s feet and push them up, and catch the flyers main body. Finally, you need the flyer who is the one who gets thrown in the air, they are the main attraction.
So, now you know about my typical cheer practice. I told you about stretching, learning new cheers, and stunting. Did this story make you want to try cheer? If it did, you can email the cheer coach, Ms. Laurence. Here is a link for stretching. 5-minute cheer stretches
