You might not know who Eros or Thanatos are. But they are always put against each other for being complete opposites; Eros representing life, Thanatos representing death.
The story of them inspired Sigmund Freud to create a psychological theory that a person falls into one out of two categories. Eros or Thanatos. Freud believed that a person’s instincts are driven by life or death; the story is still studied and considered today.
Eros, or more popularly known as cupid, in Roman mythology is the Greek God of love, and is often described as nice, compassionate, loving as well as full of life. That’s how he represented the instincts of life. People who are driven by life instincts are often happy, compassionate, and social.
Thanatos is the Greek God of death. His parents, Greek goddess Nyx goddess of night and Greek God Erebus god of darkness, is what makes Thanatos so dark and negative. Thanatos is mostly associated with violent death, manifested anger, violence, and aggression; These attributes are what drive death instincts.
For who won, nobody really won at all. It depends on you who you relate to. These are polar opposites. It’s all on you to pick life or death instincts. If you’re someone social, loving, and compassionate, you’re most likely Eros driven instincts. If you are aggressive, violent, or make impulsive decisions, you’re probably Thanatos driven instincts. Maybe you’re both or neither. But just know if you feel any of these, you now know the answer. But technically you have both, you’ve just more of one than the other. We’re not all kind people, just like we are not all violent. We all have these traits, just some more prominent than others.
