You can shoot, dunk, or block. There are many things you can do in basketball. Each with their respective positions. Today, I will be listing all five of the basketball positions from 1 to 5. If you watch basketball on TV, it may look like everyone is running around, but in reality, they all play their own part on the court.
5. Center
The center is usually the biggest player on the team. They usually are in the middle of the play, so they can post up and score. They have the responsibility of scoring most of the points that are scored in the paint(the colored part of the court nearest to the basket). They are also supposed to be a defensive menace. The best part of being a center is that you are taller than most other players, so you can easily pass and score. You also get to do tip-offs. This position requires you to be really tall and strong so you can post up and score.
4. Power Forward
The power forward is a really good defensive and mid-range scorer. This position usually has a good mid-range shooter, has amazing defense, and can score near the basket. I would say this position gets a lot of ball time, meaning they get the ball a lot. This player is second second-tallest behind the center, and is also a really strong player who can use their body to score.
3. Shooting Guard
This position is kind of like a backup point guard. They score a lot of their point outside of the paint, meaning they shoot the ball to get their points. This position gets a lot, and I mean a lot of ball time because they are a pretty good scorer and shooter. This position should be pretty close in size to the point guard, maybe a little taller and stronger, so they can get a bit closer to the basket.
2. Small Forward
This position is kind of a jack of all trades. They score in the paint sometimes, and they shoot the ball sometimes. This position is a mix between the point guard and the power forward. They are responsible for scoring a lot of the points anywhere on the court. This player is bigger than the shooting guard but smaller than the power forward. Like I said, it’s a mix.
1. Point Guard
The point guard is regarded as the leader of the offense. This player will shoot the ball the most on the team. Rarely scoring in the paint/near the basket, they also will have the best handles on the team. This position brings the ball up the court, shoots it the most, and has the most fun (in my opinion). This player is the shortest in the starting five. But that does not weigh them down because their shooting and playmaking make up for it, but because of their size, their defense is lacking.
That’s it, all the positions in basketball one through five. This is my favorite player for each position would be, Victor Wembanyama, Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, Lebron James, and Allen Iverson. Of course this list is my opinion so if you don’t agree, tough nuggies.
