On August 24, at 5:35 pm The Emporia EFC girls’ team went up to Kansas City to play their second game of the day.
Imagine you are running as fast as you can, you can’t feel your toes as they’re digging into the ground, it’s cold and you see everybody freezing with you. These were the conditions that the Emporia FC girls had to face. It was their last game of the day. Their parents have driven them up to an hour and a half. They already lost a game in the morning and they have to try to stay warm in this cold weather. What will they do when one of their important players can’t play because of an injury? I don’t know where they got all this energy from suddenly, but they put up a fight and won the game
I got the pleasure of interviewing one of the players of the team and a parent of one of the girls. The first person I interviewed was Taylen Koch, one of the forwards on the team. When I asked her how she felt during the game, she said that she felt good but also nervous. Then I asked what she felt after the game when she knew that they won, she said that she felt good to get a win under their belt. The third question I asked was what her favorite part of playing soccer was and she said she liked doing and learning tricks. The final question I asked her was how she thought the team did this season. She said she thought that we did pretty good without one of our main players. The last person that I got to interview was Melanie Cates, who is the mother of one of the players. The first question I asked her was how she felt during the game. She said she was very, very nervous. The second question I asked was how she felt after the game, and she said she was excited and so proud. The last question I asked was what was her favorite part of the game, and she said she likes it when we passed, and, even if it doesn’t make a goal, she likes seeing us work together.
We had some star players this year on this team. On forward we had Lily, Mattie, Gia, and Avery. In Midfield, we had Kami, who scored the winning goal in this game, Genesis, Karsen, and Taryn. At defence we had Winnie, Jovie, and Layla. All their players played amazingly, but there is one player who saved the day multiple times; their goalie Angelica. She did so well this season, and without her, we would have lost a lot more games.
