Top 5 Wars
January 19, 2018
The wars of the world are so interesting and knowing which one of them has had the worst casualty count is intriguing. It is also so intriguing to find out what people are willing to risk their lives for. This is why I wrote this story
#5 American Revolutionary War:
This war happened because the US wanted freedom from Britain. Overall, the casualties of the all involved in this war totaled to around 9,100 deaths. The war raged from 1765 to 1783 .
#4 American Civil War:
The American Civil War claimed the lives of 620,000 people. During all of the wars the USA was involved in, the casualty count was about 1,264,000. This means that in the history of the United States, half of all US casualties were in the Civil War.
#3 Napoleonic Wars
Over a ten year span there were around 10,000,000 casualties. Many countries in Europe were fighting against France. This war got to number three because of the mass casualties and the long time span.
#2 World War 1:
There were still many deaths during this war but not near how many died during World War 2. The estimated number was over 41 million deceased. Also, an estimated 23 million Wounded. The War lasted from July 28, 1914 – November 11, 1918, a total of 4 years and 3 months. This war also brought around the development of new technology, such as the machine gun and aircraft bombing.
#1 World War 2
World War 2 was by far the most brutal war in history. No one knows for sure how many casualties there were, but it is estimated to be 50 million to 80 million people died. On average around 27,000 people died per day. The greatest generation is a book about World War 2. The reason for naming it what Tom Brokaw did was because so many of that generation gave their lives to war and to saving the country.
In conclusion, there have been many wars and deaths caused by them. I think we should learn from our past mistakes, and try not to let them happen again. Thank you for reading.
