Why Children of Illegal Immigrants Should be Entitled to a Public Education
February 16, 2018
In my opinion, children of illegal immigrants should be entitled to a public education. I believe this because, when immigrants come to the United States, they’re trying to restart their lives and and to have more rights and freedoms. When children are brought into the United States they did not have the choice to come here. They would have to come to the U.S.; for they cannot live on their own. My last reason, is that people from other countries still pay taxes whenever they buy things. Therefore, they’re contributing to the community either way.
When people come here illegally, they aren’t trying to harm someone or something (usually). Instead gain more rights and freedoms. When those immigrants grow up, they help by contribute to our communities by becoming teachers, or doctors. According to Martin Heinrich, “800,000 young people to come out of the shadows to work legally, get drivers licenses, go to college, serve in the military and give back to their communities” (Martin Heinrich, The Hill).
When children are brought into the U.S., it isn’t their choice whether they want to come here. They aren’t old enough to live on their own. Lots of children are forced to stay with relatives, or even try to live on their own. This causes them to commit crimes, so they can survive. Anyone deserves a normal life. If children come here they can’t stay at home all day while their parents go to work. They need somewhere to go. School gives them an opportunity to be able to go somewhere in life and no one should have to pay to go there.
The last reason, is that when they come here they aren’t taking anything out of our community when it comes to our economy. There is no way they can apply for food stamps or healthcare. This is because, they don’t have social security numbers. When anyone goes to the store, and purchase something, they pay for taxes. Taxes are what pay for schools, and educations anyways. So, if you’re already paying for something, why not take advantage of it?
All of these statements help support my opinion because, they all explain why it should be fair for children of illegal immigrants to have a public education. Anyone that comes to the U.S. deserves a fair future. This can be started by simply, giving children of illegal immigrants and education, for they aren’t the “criminals” people portray them as.
