Lana Del Rey’s Life
April 3, 2018
Lana Del Rey has been one of my favorite artists for awhile now because of her melancholy love songs. I love to learn about the life of my favorite celebrities, and then I realized I don’t know anything about one of my favorite artist, Elizabeth Woolridge Grant, better known as Lana Del Rey. No one really talks about her past or anything so today I’ll explain her before stardom, what she’s known for, and what she’s doing now.
On June 21, 1989 in New York City Elizabeth Woolridge Grant was born. Her schooling was at a Catholic school called, Roman Catholic Church. As a child she would sing in her church’s chorus. Elizabeth even made an acoustic album called Serines between 2005 or 2006; it eventually leaked in 2012. On Elizabeth’s rise to stardom she made a full length album called, Lana Del Rey. It was only out for a short period of time before being taken down entirely on iTunes in 2012.
On January 27th 2012, her most popular album, Born to Die, was released. The songs, Video Games, and Blue Jeans music videos were posted to YouTube. The songs both became huge hits! Video Games even became her debut single. Born to Die sold over 3.4 million copies worldwide; the album even became the fifth- best-selling album of 2012. Then in 2013 Elizabeth’s song, Summertime Sadness, reached number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became her first American top ten hit.
2016 was a good year for Elizabeth. She won the “Favorite Female Artist” award at the People’s Choice Awards, and a Brit Award for International Female Artist. In 2017 she wrote her fifth album, Lust for Life. The album came out in April 2017. This album became very popular in the United Kingdom and the United States, because Lust for Life was her third number one album in the UK and second album in the US.
I find it sad how she’s so critically acclaimed but isn’t in the news much anymore; but I totally recommend checking out those links and trying out her music. But most importantly, I hope you learned at least one thing about Lana Del Rey’s life, career, and beginnings.
