Para educator Day: Interview With Ms. V!

Ms. V!

Lenia Crouch, Editor

April 4th, 2018 — National Paraeducator day. In honor of this I interviewed a para (short for paraeducator). Paras help assist in classrooms everyday and the classroom wouldn’t function without them. I interviewed Ms. V (Velasquez) and she kindly answered my questions about what it is like being a para!

Q: What is your favorite part of being a para?

A: Getting to work with the kiddos!

Q: What is your least favorite part of being a para?

A: When the kids don’t want to do their work and they argue with me.

Q: How long have you been a para?

A: I’m going on my 24th year.

Q: Do you teach any classes on your own?

A: No

Q: Which classes do you assist?

A: Right now, science, math and some resource classes.

Q: If you could change one thing about your job, what would it be?

A: Maybe some of the disrespect from some of the kids.

Q: Were you ever a teacher?

A: No, but I run the Getting Crafty after school club.

Ms. V (Velasquez) was extremely nice about letting me interview her. She seems to really enjoy her job, but would like a little more respect. All students need to make sure that they respect every worker here at EMS, not just the teachers. I hope you enjoyed reading this interview with Ms. V (Velasquez)!
