January 21st through 22nd the Spring festival occurs in which students get off of school for a month while adults get about two weeks. A usual custom is to give a friend or a loved “lucky money” in a red envelope (the red symbolizes energy happiness and good luck). The actual money does not really mean anything separately but when put together with the bright red envelope you become blessed with a peaceful year, and in case you ever get an envelope don’t open it in front of the person because that is considered impolite. On the last day of the Spring celebration it is considered to be the “Chinese Valentine’s Day” and includes fireworks, folk dancing, and candle releasing.
