A watercolor of Kygo’s symbols.

Have you ever heard of the name Kygo? I bet you’ve heard of the name Alan Walker, and Kygo is pretty much the same thing. They have their different sounds though, and you can tell the difference if you have a good ear. Here you will get to see a bit of Kygo’s life before he became an artist. You will also be able to read a bit about him and his music.

Kygo is his name in English. His real name is Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll. Kygo is from Bengen, Norway, which is another reason his name sounds a bit foreign. He was born on September 11, 1991 in Singapore. Kygo has 4 siblings and he places in about the middle of them. As a kid, Kygo traveled with his parents a lot. At age 6, Kygo started taking piano lessons which I think maybe help spark a bit of the way he chooses his sound. When he was 15-16 Kygo started to produce music. One of the people who he looks of up to when creating his music is Avicii, who sadly killed himself in April of 2018.

Kygo is a Norwegian DJ, record producer, and songwriter. The type of music that Kygo produces is trap. But if we want to be specific his style of music tropical house, deep house, and progressive house downtempo. It’s all in the same general area, trap, but they all have a slight difference. A lot of this songs, like in the new album Cloud 9, it sounds like there are xylophone going on during the music, which may be affected by the piano lessons he took at a young age. The nice thing about Kygo is that it isn’t all beats, there are usually some kind of lyrics going on in his songs. So, like a real song.

You honestly have probably heard Kygo’s music and just didn’t know it. Like, the songs Remind Me To Forget. The cool thing about Kygo’s music is that not all of his songs sound the same. And like I’ve stated in the last paragraph, he actually does lyrics. Again, kinda like Alan Walker. Kygo’s new album Cloud 9, is my personal favorite. All of the sounds are on point, along with the lyrics. You can really feel the emotion in these songs. Like in the song Tired, originally produced by Alan Walker, Kygo put a lot more piano sounds which made it a bit sadder than Alan Walker’s version.  Raging is one of the best songs on this album because in the beginning it’s mainly just lyrics, then Kygo slowly eases in with his different beats and sounds.

As you can see Kygo is pretty remarkable. A trap artist from Norway. Well, a DJ, a producer, and songs writer all wrapped into one. Even though this artist is known, he should be more widely known and his music should be more appreciated.
