Cross Country preparing for meet

Milo Ovsak, Beat Reporter

On Monday, October 7th, the Emporia Middle School Cross Country team attended a meet at El Dorado Lake.

This meet was very successful. A bunch of people improved their personal records (Known as PR’s), ran hard, and had fun. Today we will be talking about our Cross Country’s last meet at El Dorado Lake. Today I got to interview two people who went to this meet, a coach and a runner. According to Jared, “ I thought it was fun. I got my 2 mile PR. The meet  was successful and I am planning on doing cross country next year. 7th grade got first. We smoked the meet. We got 27 points. I think everybody improved.”

What is Cross Country?

Cross Country is a team sport when you run out in nature and have fun with your friends. At Emporia Middle School we have practice everyday and we work very hard to improve our times. I would like to thank our coaches. Coach Sandoval and Coach Addison. Enjoy!

[Milo] “How did everyone’s times go? Did a lot of athletes improve?”

[Sandoval] “Everybody on the team ended better than they started. Everyone on the team improved their times from the beginning of the year. Most people ran a personal best. I wanna say all got their personal best. Almost all of you guys ran a personal best.”

[Milo] “What did Emporia place in? What was the fastest time?”

[Sandoval] “Our 7th grade boys won their division. Our 8th boys eighth out of ten teams. Our 8th girls got 3rd out of five teams. 7th grade won it big time. As far as our 7th girls, they got 2nd out of nine teams.”

[Milo] “Overall was the meet successful and are you both planning on coaching next year?”

[Sandoval] “Yes, we felt like the meet was successful and a lot of people placed and got their personal best and we are both planning on coaching next year.”

[Milo] “Thank you for your time”.

[Sandoval] “No problem”

 What is a “PR”?

According to Coach Sandoval,”Our 7th grade boys won their division. Our 8th boys eighth out of ten teams. Our 8th girls got 3rd out of five teams. 7th grade won it big time. As far as our 7th girls, they got 2nd out of nine teams.” Mr Sandoval mentioned the term “PR”. A “PR” is short for “Personal Record”. In Cross Country we use this term a lot because we practice everyday and every meet we should improve our times to represent our team, but also show that we practiced and we ran hard.

In conclusion a bunch of athletes have done very well, especially for the last meet of the Cross Country season. It was a very pretty view out in the country. The good thing is that all the sweat dripping down our faces paid off.
