Women’s Strike for Peace And Equality

Cordelia Byington, Editor

According to a recent study,  “a white Non-Hispanic man and a black women’s pay won’t be equal until 2369.” For that reason,  Wages should be equal no matter the gender. One reason is Women are forced to spend less time with their families to earn a living. Another reason is, Women have to work harder to provide for their families. Finally, There is pure discrimination against women even if they have the same amount of training.

One reason that wages should be equal no matter their gender is, Women are forced to spend less time with their families to earn a living. According to pewresearch.org,  “In 2020, women earned 84% of what men earned, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of median hourly earnings of both full- and part-time workers. Based on this estimate, it would take an extra 42 days of work for women to earn what men did in 2020.” This means that women need to work extra hours to earn as much as men do.  This implies that women have to spend less time with their families and more time at work to earn that extra money.

Another reason wages should be equal is, that women have to work harder to provide for their families. According to a recent study, “The study found that in 2011, more than 40 percent of American households with children relied on their mother as their main or only source of income.” This means that more than 40% of households rely on women as the only source of income. The wages should be equal so that mothers can provide equally for their children.

A final reason wages should be equal is that there is pure discrimination against women even if they have the same amount of training.  According to new research from the Council on Postsecondary Education, “Women in Kentucky with an associate or bachelor’s degree are still earning just 73 cents for every dollar earned by their male counterparts.” This indicates, when a man earns 1 dollar an hour, Women in Kentucky earn just 73 cents. This means that Women with the same education and training as a man earn significantly less.

Women are forced to spend less time with their families to earn a living. Women have to work harder to provide for their family. There is pure discrimination against women even if they have the same amount of training. For these reasons, Wages should be equal no matter the gender.
