Me and my family at Easter 2016

Do you celebrate Easter? I celebrate Easter with my family and you should too. It’s a good time of year to celebrate. The weather gets nicer and it’s nice and bright outside. School is almost finished and life starts to feel better.

Did you know that Easter is actually a holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ in the Christian religion? Did you know that,“The first story of a rabbit (later named the “Easter Bunny”) hiding eggs in a garden was published in 1680.” Also, eggs have been seen as an ancient symbol of fertility, while springtime is considered to bring new life and rebirth. We celebrate Easter because my grandparents like teaching us about Jesus and it gives my family a chance to get together and catch up with each other because we don’t all live in Emporia.

Did you know lamb is a popular eaten dish on Easter? In my family, we don’t eat lamb on Easter at all. We have some type of meat and a lot of fruits and vegetables, but we also have things like chips, drinks, crackers, and dip. I love this one dip my grandma makes. It is a baked ham and cheese dip and it’s really good with Ritz crackers. A few more popular Easter dishes are ham, potatoes, corn, green beans, and chicken. My grandma makes the best homemade rolls. They are sweet and fluffy. They are the best and we have them every single Easter. One thing we do is the traditional Easter egg hunt; but my grandparents make it fair by writing our names on the eggs, assigning us one color of egg, or putting a sticker on it and if it has your sticker then it’s yours our eggs always have money in them.

Did you know that if you wore new clothes on Easter, you would have good luck for the rest of the year? “In fact, it was so widely believed that upper-class New Yorkers would literally strut their stuff coming out of attending Easter mass at well-heeled midtown churches. This tradition becomes the basis of the modern, and decidedly less elitist.” We always celebrate Easter is always at my grandparent’s house. My grandparents’ house is in the country so we can do a lot more and sometimes on Easter if it’s nice enough we will burn the pasture and if it’s a little cold or chilly we will make s’mores or roast hot dogs. It’s really fun in my opinion. I love all of my cousins although Jude would have to be my favorite. He is now 14 and we are a year apart but I am way taller than him. I think it’s pretty cool. Jude is funny. He has a really good sense of humor He is also a bit childish, so I think it’s fun hanging out with him because his personality is great.

Easter is a great holiday. Not just because it is a time to hang out with your family, but also because it marks the Resurrection of Jesus three days after his death by crucifixion and you also get presents like candy and clothes. Easter is a great holiday to celebrate with family and friends and if you don’t you should start.
