On Saturday, February 17th, Emporia State University produced a production for the 2018 Spring Festivals or more commonly known as, Chinese New Year. For the show, there were fourteen small routines put on by Asian ESU students. The show started at seven P.M. and ended two hours later.

The show was held in Albert Taylor Hall in Plumb Hall, on the ESU campus. When you arrived, a couple of college students handed you a raffle ticket, and told you thanks for coming. Attending was completely free, and I suspected most people were there because of that.

I’m obviously not going to say every show that was put on. I’ll just be narrating my favorite ones. The opening show, was a group of six women who danced in cheerleading outfits to an upbeat American song. Another act was a woman who sang opera style. Personally, this song and her voice were extraordinary. Her voice was loud and dramatic, perfect for the Chinese song.

Next, another event that I liked was four girls who played a song with four Chinese instruments. The sound that the instruments made together was harmonic and it was soothing to my ears. The song lasted for five minutes, and I felt like I was going to fall asleep. A couple of acts later, a girl came out and sang a traditional Chinese song. I didn’t like this as much as the opera singer, but I did enjoy hearing her perform. After her, two fifth grade boys went up and preformed pieces on the piano. I was stunned at their talent because the songs were so lovely, and angelic. To be honest, I was surprised at their talent.

I personally enjoyed these acts more than the other shows, like some singers and dancers. Overall, I thought the show was displayed nicely. There were a couple of delays but that didn’t affect how I enjoyed the show. Even though the event has already happened, I’m sure you could attend next year!
