“The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you,” B.B King. Many people don’t like school but if you didn’t go to school then you wouldn’t know anything about anything. Today I’m going to tell you why school should start later. Later start times give more sleep for the students. Later start times improve attendance Later start times improve mental health.
The first reason is later start times give more sleep for the students. According to this article, “A study comparing 7th-8th graders in schools that start about 37 minutes later vs. those that start earlier found that students in the later-start schools gained on average 17 more minutes of sleep per weeknight, even though their bedtimes were also about 15 minutes later. Those in later-start schools also reported being less sleepy during the day.” This means that students are getting more sleep and their being less sleepy
The next reason is later start times improve attendance. According to this article, “In the Seattle high school case that was delayed from ~7:50 to ~8:45, there were measurable gains in attendance and punctuality. These improvements were especially noticeable in economically disadvantaged students.” This means that there would be more attendance which would get kids to learn more and they would have better grades.
The final reason later start times improve mental health. According to this article, “economic analysis and other studies note that insufficient sleep is linked to obesity, poor mental health, increased risk of accidents, etc. By increasing sleep on school nights, delayed start times can reduce those risks and produce long-term benefits.” This means that fewer students would get symptoms of depression, obesity etc.
