Every April, Patriot’s Day is celebrated. On Patriot’s Day either schools have no school or companies don’t work. This holiday is very important to history. In this story, I’m going to tell you the history of Patriot’s Day.

Patriot’s Day specifically honors the battle of Lexington and Concord. Also, the American Revolutionary War was a huge important lead to the independence of the whole United States. Since it happened on April 19, “ the third Monday in April is symbolic for the emerging independence of the new country.” (https://www.timeanddate.com/holidays/us/patriots-day).

There were so many soldiers who fought in the battles, but one soldier who stood out more than others was Paul Revere. He is also remembered on Patriot’s Day.  He had impacted other lives and was just an outstanding patriot! During the American Revolution, this American silversmith (a person who makes silver articles) was known for spreading the word of the Boston Tea Party to New York and Philadelphia. He also warned people of the British Invasion. “The story of his ‘midnight’ ride to Lexington to discuss action plans against the British has been poeticized” (https://www.timeanddate.com/holidays/us/patriots-day).

Did you know in Wisconsin, where Patriots’ Day is not a holiday, children are still taught about the events of April 19th on the same day? Today, the state of Massachusetts code of law now officially includes the holiday and its governor proclaims April 19 of each year as Patriot’s Day.  Also, since 1959 the Boston Red Sox have been scheduled to play a home game on Patriots’ Day at Fenway Park? Well, there has been a lot of celebrations for Patriot’s Day, such as the Boston Marathon which is the oldest!  It has been going every single year since 1897 or 121 years! “Today the number of entries averages 20,000. This marathon also attracts approximately half a million spectators each year” (http://www.softschools.com/facts/holidays/patriots_day_facts/1342/).

In conclusion, Patriot’s day is a very important holiday for the United States even though it isn’t celebrated everywhere. People fought and died in the Revolutionary War so that people in the United States could have their freedom.  This is the history of Patriot’s Day and hopefully, you will start honoring these soldiers and actually mean it.
