On April 13th, 1743, Thomas Jefferson was born. This name may sound familiar, but you probably don’t know who he is, or why he was so important. In this article, you’ll learn everything you need to know about Thomas Jefferson.

Thomas Jefferson was born on April 13th, 1743 in Shadwell, Virginia. He has nine siblings; six of which are sisters, and three who are brothers. Jefferson’s parents were Peter Jefferson and Jane Randolph Jefferson. There wasn’t a site that said exactly how many children he had, but it was estimated around 6-9 (there’s a rumor that he had 6 children with Sally Hemings, his slave). He had a wife named Martha Skelton Jefferson who was a widow before she remarried to Jefferson.

Thomas Jefferson was an American Founding Father who was the author of the Declaration of Independence. He was the third United States president who lead to America’s early development. Jefferson’s presidential term lasted through March 4th, 1801 to March 4th, 1809. “During the American Revolutionary War, Thomas Jefferson served in the Virginia legislature and the Continental Congress and was governor of Virginia. He later served as U.S. minister to France and U.S. secretary of state, and was vice president under John Adams” (History.com).

“Presidential scholars and historians generally praise Jefferson’s public achievements, including his primary authorship of the Declaration of Independence, advocacy of religious freedom and tolerance in Virginia, and his oversight of the Louisiana Purchase” (Wikipedia). Our third president did a lot for the US such as drafting the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom and abolish the slave trade in the U.S. If you want to know more, visit 10 Major Accomplishments of Thomas Jefferson.

Overall, this historical figure played a key role in the history of the United States. Though he did many great things, everything has to come to an end. He died on July 4th, 1826 at Monticello VA (he lived for 83 years!).
