Do you know who invented basketball? Today I will talk about the father of basketball and why he invented it and who invented it.

The person who invented Basketball was none other than James Naismith. James Naismith was born on November 6, 1861, in Almonte, Ontario. In 1891 Naismith moved to Massachusetts to teach. In that school during the winter his students were bored and needed something to do. So the school asked him to make a game.

James Naismith came up with Basketball. It consisted of 2 peach baskets and a soccer ball. Later the peach baskets were changed into a hoop with a net, the backboards were added, and dribbling was allowed.

Professional Leagues were formed in the 1920’s Teams as the Harlem Rens and the Original Celtics. Basketball became an Olympic sport in 1936 Naismith was the one who tossed the ball up for tip off. What was a winter distraction is now one of the biggest sports in the world.

In conclusion, James Naismith created Basketball in Springfield, Massachusetts for a winter distraction, but it is now one of the most popular sports.
